Our Commitment to Child Safety

Being an educator is a privilege. We understand leaving your child in care can be extremely overwhelming and stressful. Seeking reassurance about your child’s safety is expected and actually encouraged. Kinda-Mindi strives to ensure all children are safe & protected and has a   zero tolerance against any form of abuse against a child. This is made evident in our Statement of Commitment to Child Safety and embedding the 10 Child Safe Standards across all aspects of our service operations.

What are the 10 Child Safe Standards?

Developed by the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG), these mandatory standards aim to prevent, detect, and respond to harm and abuse effectively. Applying the Standards means that the best interests of children are always at the forefront, child abuse is never tolerated, every child’s rights are respected and all concerns about child safety are taken seriously.

These standards add another layer to our role as Mandatory Reporters under the child protection legislation, in that they focus on our organisational culture right from advertising for educators & staff, the recruitment process, supervision of staff, the layout of the environment and our interactions with children, to name a few.

In a nutshell, these standards are about ensuring our educators, staff and environments are safe for your child.

What does Kinda-Mindi do to develop & maintain a child safe organisation?

  • Recruitment of all educators & staff, regardless of gender, involves ‘working with children check, extensive reference checks, interview questions about child safety, induction & mentor program & child protection training.
  • We run annual child protection training & the child safe standards are part of our team meeting discussions
  • We have detailed policies and procedures in place, so all staff understand expectations and what to do if concerned about a child’s safety.
  • Educators & staff are never left alone with children and areas of vulnerability such as nappy change and cot rooms and these spaces are designed so supervision is clear.
  • We have multiple layers of leadership & support to be able to identify any concerns and provide training and guidance.
  • We have developed and continue to refine our organisational culture where ALL educators and staff have a ZERO tolerance towards child abuse or harm.
